Headline: Founder at Virgin Group

About: Founder of the Virgin Group, which has gone on to grow successful businesses in sectors including mobile telephony, travel and transportation, financial services, leisure and entertainment and health and wellness. Virgin is a leading international investment group and one of the world's most recognised and respected brands. Since starting youth culture magazine “Student” at aged 16, I have tried to find entrepreneurial ways to drive positive change in the world. In 2004 we established Virgin Unite, the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group, which unites people and entrepreneurial ideas to create opportunities for a better world. Most of my time is now spent building businesses that will make a positive difference in the world and working with Virgin Unite and organisations it has incubated, such as The Elders, The Carbon War Room, The B Team and Ocean Unite. I also serve on the Global Commission on Drug Policy and supports ocean conservation with the Ocean Elders. I'm a tie-loathing adventurer, philanthropist and troublemaker, who believes in turning ideas into reality. Otherwise known as Dr Yes!

  • So touching to see @VirginAtlantic’s new plane paying tribute to my wonderful wife, Joan.    Joan was part of the Virgin Atlantic story from the very beginning. From joining the inaugural flight in 1984, to coming up with the idea of donating loose change on-board for charity (which resulted in almost every airline in the world following suit and raising billions over the years). She was always there.    Seeing the details of our family tartan, the heart-shaped necklace, and the rings she wore every day, brought back so many happy memories.
  • We get one go at this life. Don’t spend it wondering, “What if?” The best things in my life began before I knew what I was doing. Saying 'yes’ has changed my life. It’s opened up doors. It’s forged friendships. It’s taught lessons that will never leave me. Now, I’d love to hear about the wonderful yes moments that changed your life. We’re officially searching for @Virgin’s next Head of Yes! The opportunity is open to everyone in the UK and US. You don’t need to have a huge following. You just need a real story about a time you threw caution to the wind. One person will receive a deal worth £75,000 in the UK or $100,000 in the US, including six months of incredible experiences. Those shortlisted may also discover more ‘yes’ opportunities along the way too! To apply: Share a video about a time you said yes on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram, tag @Virgin and use #headofyes. Applications open until 20th October, 2026. You never know where one small yes might lead. Terms apply - see @Virgin’s link in bio. 18+ UK and US residents only. By submitting an application video, you agree to your video being reposted (in whole or in part) on Virgin channels. Head of Yes is a paid content-creator engagement selected on merit, not a prize draw or employment relationship, and is subject to the selected individual entering into a content creator agreement with Virgin Red. Apply by 20 October.

  • Did you know that @Virgin once imagined the iPod, but we made it into an April Fool’s joke! In 1986, we announced the Virgin Music Box: a machine that could store music and let you call up any song you wanted. We thought it was so farfetched it would pass as a ‘gotcha’ moment. How wrong we were! Years later, the world caught up with the idea, and I remember thinking: we should have built the bloody thing. The moral of the story is that when an idea feels slightly ridiculous, don’t dismiss it too quickly. Sometimes the ridiculous ideas are a not-so-distant future...
  • We give ourselves health checks. Our planet deserves one too. Today, while in New York for Climate Week, I joined the Planetary Guardians and the brilliant Professor Johan Rockström to launch the 2026 Planetary Health Check, an annual scientific assessment of the systems that keep our Earth healthy. The news is confronting. Seven of the planet’s nine safety boundaries have now been crossed, and all seven are moving in the wrong direction. This isn’t some distant problem happening to somebody else. We feel it through hotter days, rising food prices, polluted air, floods, fires and droughts. It affects all of us. But it’s not all doom and gloom - there are real reasons for hope. Solar power is doubling roughly every three years. One in four new cars sold worldwide is electric. And investment in clean energy is now nearly twice that going into fossil fuels. The solutions are here. Now we need to use them at speed and scale to get our planet back into a safe space. I want my grandchildren, and yours, to inherit a world every bit as beautiful as the one we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy. Read the Planetary Health Check, share its findings and add your name to the call for planetary health to sit at the heart of global decision-making. This issue isn’t bigger than any of us, because every one of us can help. @planetarygdns @VirginUnite

Excited that Borough Market favourite @roast_restaurant will be opening its new permanent home at @virginhotelsldnshoreditch this October, alongside its much-loved Borough Market home. Classic all-day British dining (a personal favourite of mine) and another great reason to head to Shoreditch. Reservations are now open on the ROAST website.
  • Golden hour, at @MahaliMzuri. I’m rarely happier than when I’m on safari. The beautiful Mahali Mzuri sits at the heart of the Maasai Mara in Kenya, and there’s nowhere in the world quite like it. Whenever we work on a @virginlimitededition property, I start by imagining a place my family would genuinely want to spend time in, and then we open it up for others to enjoy. Mahali Mzuri is such a wonderful example of this.
  • Can't stop dancing to The Happy Song @wavesrushin @bransonsam @nathanthoen
  • Whenever someone asks how I ended up signing the Sex Pistols, starting an airline, crossing an ocean in a hot air balloon and flying to space, the answer is surprisingly simple: I kept saying yes. Now @virgin is looking for its next Head of Yes to join the fun! Fancy throwing your hat into the ring? Your next great story could be three little letters away. Swipe through to find out how you could spend six months saying yes to adventures around the world. #headofyes

Anupam and Richard share a strong foundation in entrepreneurship, mentorship, and social impact, with complementary personalities—Anupam’s reflective nature could ground Richard’s adventurous spirit. However, their lifestyles present significant challenges: Anupam’s deep roots in Mumbai contrast sharply with Richard’s global, fast-moving existence, creating tension around time, presence, and long-term compatibility. While both are intellectually curious and comfortable in the spotlight, the practical realities of maintaining a meaningful relationship across continents and demanding schedules make a second date worth exploring—but with cautious optimism rather than certainty.

Nikhil and Richard share rare alignment in entrepreneurship, sustainability, and intellectual curiosity, but their lifestyles clash significantly. Richard's high-energy, globe-trotting adventure lifestyle conflicts with Nikhil's preference for grounded, phone-free depth, making sustained intimacy challenging. While both are resilient public figures who value meaningful connections, the geographic and temperamental gap suggests a compelling but likely unsustainable pairing.

Brené's need for deep, regular connection and privacy conflicts with Richard's high-profile, constantly traveling lifestyle. While both are intellectually curious and comfortable with difficult conversations, the gap between stillness and spontaneity, rootedness and nomadism, makes a strong mutual fit unlikely without significant compromise.

Melinda and Richard share a rare alignment on values—social impact, global advocacy, and family—but their lifestyles diverge sharply. Melinda seeks deep, rooted partnership and mission-aligned consistency, while Richard thrives on spontaneity, risk-taking, and constant motion. The chemistry is intellectual and values-based, but the practical realities of their schedules, public scrutiny, and contrasting energy rhythms create significant friction. Richard is slightly more optimistic about bridging the gap, while Melinda remains guarded by past disappointments.

While Sheryl and Richard share compelling alignment in mission-driven work, social impact, and intellectual curiosity, their lifestyle fundamentals are deeply mismatched. Sheryl needs stability, routine, and spiritual grounding, while Richard thrives on constant motion and spontaneity. Though both are high-profile leaders who understand public life, the core tension between structure and freedom, tradition and adventure, makes a sustainable long-term match unlikely without significant compromise from one or both parties.
