  • My hope for the future? That every woman—no matter who she is or where she lives—can step into her full power because she’s able to get the care she needs.
  • If you want proof that our health systems overlook women, just look at menopause. It affects half the population, yet it remains poorly understood and drastically underfunded, leaving women without the care and relief they need. In The New York Times, I share why I’m directing new funding to raise the standard of care for menopause and perimenopause—and what it will take to unlock a menopause revolution. Read the full piece at the link in my bio.
  • Unlocking women’s power changes everything.   In our homes.  In our workplaces.  In our communities.  In the rooms where laws are passed.  And at the tables where decisions are made.
  • “You didn’t get listened to, but here’s how to be listened to more.” That’s the message women get constantly — and I don’t think we say the other part enough: you should be listened to. That should be where we start, not where we’re negotiating to. Full report linked in my bio. #parenting #emilyoster #data #evidencebacked #melindafrenchgates
  • “I want every good thing for this child before I have another.” A mom named Marianne told me that when I was in Kenya in 2011, and it’s stuck with me ever since. Every parent, no matter where they live, wants the chance to give their children the best possible start in life. On #WorldContraceptionDay, let’s remember that starts with something fundamental: the ability to decide whether and when to have children.
  • A journalist raising questions about lung cancer rates in women. A doctor who nearly became a maternal mortality statistic. A columnist shining a spotlight on menopause.     These leaders are using their voices and platforms to highlight the distinct health challenges half the population faces.     Today I’m sharing eight key voices for information and inspiration. I’d love to hear what you’d add to this list. Who and what have you been listening to, reading, or watching lately to learn more about women’s health?
  • I’ve heard from women all over the world how important it is to be able to decide for themselves whether and when to have children. That’s why it’s essential that they have access to contraceptives and reliable information about their options. Their health and their families’ futures depend on it. #WorldContraceptionDay
  • "@melindafrenchgates, welcome to #NiceTalk!" 👏 Last week, the @pivotaldotcom founder joined @nikkiogun for a candid conversation around the intersection of women's health and power. Stay tuned for the full episode, coming soon. 👀
  • When we think about the stakes in healthcare, we tend to think of them in terms of life and death, being sick or being healthy. The conversation is about your physical well-being and maybe your mental health — and it pretty much stops there. But your health impacts so much more, especially for women, a new survey from Gallup and Pivotal, a philanthropic group founded by Melinda French Gates, shows. “Women are often taught to put themselves last and minimize their own needs,” Melinda wrote to Vox in an email. “They don’t always have time to care for themselves because they’re so busy caring for others. And they might not be able to afford childcare or home health support for their aging parents. Our survey showed one in six women delayed healthcare because of their responsibilities caring for their family members. For Black women it’s one in five, and Hispanic women one in four. Too many women are facing an uphill road to even just get to a doctor’s office.” “It’s possible to make it easier for people to balance healthcare and family responsibilities — but it’s going to take action from many angles. That’s exactly why I invest in both women’s health and in caregiving, and I’d encourage more philanthropists to do the same.” Read more about why we need to invest more in women’s health — and how to accomplish it — at the link in our bio. 📸: Courtesy of Pivotal Ventures
  • More than 50% of U.S. women have had a negative experience seeking healthcare in the last five years. And 42% said their health has limited their careers.     When women can’t get the care they need, it impacts every aspect of their lives.    @pivotaldotcom partnered with @gallup to conduct one of the most expansive surveys on women’s health and opportunity ever fielded.   What we found was that, for women, barriers to care too often become barriers to opportunity.     Learn more about our findings on Pivotal.com
  • From hot flashes to night sweats, menopause comes with a long list of things women are told to brace for. Far less discussed is what menopause can cost a woman at work. A major new survey from @pivotaldotcom, @melindafrenchgates, and Gallup quantifies that cost—and data shared exclusively with Marie Claire shows just how unevenly it falls. Women with the least financial cushion are absorbing the steepest career costs. Tap the link in our bio to read more.
  • Women’s health is too important for any one group to tackle alone. That’s why I’m calling on business leaders, policymakers, philanthropists, care providers, and advocates to use their influence to improve women’s health.

Melinda and Mel share strong values around empowerment and authentic communication, but their approaches differ significantly—Melinda's structural, data-driven advocacy versus Mel's individual-focused personal growth. While both are high-profile and media-savvy, Melinda needs deeper alignment with systemic change than Mel may provide, and Mel needs more private presence than Melinda's schedule likely allows.

Brian and Melinda share strong alignment on global impact, technology for social good, and navigating high-profile public roles, but their lifestyles and primary life centers create significant tension. Brian's CEO-speed travel and single-focus intensity may destabilize Melinda's need for family integration and private grounding, while her deep existing family ties and mission-specific focus may not accommodate his demand for routine personal time. The match has intellectual spark and shared values around movement-building, but the practical realities of their daily lives likely make sustained intimacy difficult.

Melinda and Richard share a rare alignment on values—social impact, global advocacy, and family—but their lifestyles diverge sharply. Melinda seeks deep, rooted partnership and mission-aligned consistency, while Richard thrives on spontaneity, risk-taking, and constant motion. The chemistry is intellectual and values-based, but the practical realities of their schedules, public scrutiny, and contrasting energy rhythms create significant friction. Richard is slightly more optimistic about bridging the gap, while Melinda remains guarded by past disappointments.

While both are mission-driven and comfortable in the public eye, Melinda's need for consistent family presence and Anupam's demanding travel schedule make sustained connection unlikely. Their different cultural backgrounds and communication styles—Anupam's playful social media persona versus Melinda's measured gravitas—could lead to misunderstandings. Both are accomplished, articulate communicators who value family and meaningful work, yet the gap between systemic advocacy and consumer-focused empowerment, combined with differing geographic centers and lifestyle rhythms, makes sustained mutual fit challenging despite mutual respect.

Randi and Melinda share meaningful ground in mission-driven work, public advocacy, and balancing family with demanding careers. However, their lifestyles are fundamentally misaligned: Randi's extreme, unpredictable athletic schedule and spontaneous adventure-seeking clash with Melinda's need for values-aligned, sustained engagement and reflective connection. While both are high-profile mothers who use their platforms strategically, Randi's late-night races and 100-mile training runs leave little room for the quiet, long-term planning Melinda values. The gap is too wide for a sustainable romantic match.
